A Political Hack as FBI Director

Recent reports of Joe Lieberman being the front runner for the vacant Director of the FBI confirms my worst fears. Instead of a respected, apolitical, competent law enforcement professional for that critical position, Trumps inclination is to go with a political hack that has no serious qualifications to serve as Director of the FBI. Trump has no concept of the long term impact of putting an unqualified politico in charge. Then again, Trump has little understanding or appreciation of qualifications or competence. He is without question the most unqualified and incompetent president we have ever had but in his mind he is the best ever. He is an arrogant, narcissistic fool who is endangering our country and demeaning the office with every passing controversy. I can only hope there is enough push back the Lieberman does not become the next FBI Director. He is a self-absorbed chameleon that is not deserving or qualified for the position.

The Whiner-in-Chief

Among other things, Donald Trump is now the Whiner in Chief. He is oblivious to his own incompetent, incapable, blithering idiocy and chooses to blame the media, the Democrats, his staff and anyone else who he can think of for all his problems. He suffers from terminal "POGO SYNDROME." We have met the enemy and he is us! Donald Trump is his own worst enemy. He is a mentally unstable narcissistic nitwit. He is a pathological, compulsive liar that lives in an alternate reality. Never in my adult life have I witnessed such chaos in our government or more division in our society. Trump is a one person wrecking crew. Unfortunately we are probably going to be stuck with him for the foreseeable future and will have to endure a daily dose of Trump "oh poor me" whining. It's not like the country wasn't warned about the potential dangers of a Trump presidency. They voted in sufficient numbers to allow this freak to be elected and now they can live with it. All those who chose not to vote share the same credit for this travesty. Your laziness and lack of civic responsibility has a price and now we are paying it. Donald Trump is completely unfit and unworthy of holding the office of President. Hopefully, a special prosecutor will bring him down in a court of law.

James Comey -Good Riddance... but,

The decision to fire James Comey is overdue but it is the right thing to do. He has tarnished the shield of the FBI and his judgement is highly questionable. He is, in my opinion the worst Director the FBI has ever seen. His oversized ego, sanctimonious attitude and arrogance set the stage for his downfall.  He seems a lot more concerned about his image than doing the right thing and the chickens have come home to roost.  I am glad he is gone and the FBI will be better for it hopefully.

The dilemma is that the same President who fired Comey is the same President who will appoint his replacement and that's the really scary part. Looking around the White House at Trumps appointments like Kelly Ann Conway, Steve Bannon, Sean Spice and others should give anyone pause.  It is highly doubtful that Trump will choose a competent, skilled, honest law enforcement professional who will lead the FBI effectively. Trump is more concerned with disproving any Russia connection to his campaign than selecting an individual that might ultimately be responsible for charging him with crimes if his involvement with Russia could be proven.

I am glad Comey is gone but gravely concerned about who Trump might select to replace him.

James Comey is Unworthy of the Position of Director of the FBI

James Comey is the worst Director in the history of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He should have been fired but he is Donald Trump's stooge so that's not going to happen.  He played a major role in Trump being elected so why would Trump fire him?

Comey claims he is "nauseated" that his actions of October 27, 2016 may have impacted the election, but he wouldn't have done anything different. That speaks volumes about his self-serving, flawed judgement and serious lack of a sense of fundamental fairness. Comey is unworthy to serve as Director of the FBI.  He lacks the integrity, judgement and character necessary to lead an agency with as important a role as the FBI has.

Comey has tarnished the shield of the FBI and undermined the integrity of the organization. He is a disgrace to professional law enforcement in my opinion.

Dumb and Dumber

On a daily basis, Donald Trump and Sean Spicer seem to be a come-to-life version of Jim Carey and Jeff Daniel's characters in "Dumb and Dumber."

Donald Trump spouts his lies, half-truths or just plain incompetent rantings and Sean Spicer takes up the mantle to defend, explain, promote or otherwise try to provide legitimacy to the outright BS from the psuedo Commander-in-Chief.

It is hard to believe we are in this situation in America. I have said before and will say again, how Donald Trump was elected is beyond my capacity to understand. Never in my adult life have I seen government in such a state of disarray and total chaos.  If people wanted change, they changed the wrong thing. They should have gotten rid of a do-nothing Congress and the party of no. Instead, we have Republican incompetents who whined about Obama Care for 6 years and when given the chance to change it proved they hadn't even put together a plan for a viable alternative to replace it. They weren't for anything, they were just against anything Obama did.

Unfortunately, we will probably be stuck in this morass for three more years. Until then, we can be entertained by the sequel to Dumb and Dumber with Trump and Spicer.

Republican Hypocrisy

Trey Gowdy - Partisan Pitbull of the Republcan Junkyard
Republican Hypocrisy is Pathetic

It is absolutely amazing to me the level of  hypocrisy and phoniness of the Republican Party.  Imagine for a minute if Hillary Clinton had been elected president and appointed her totally inexperienced son-in-law and daughter as special advisors to the president and given them the roles and authority Donald Trump has given Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.  Trey Gowdy the partisan pitbull of the Republican junk yard would have been red-faced and having convulsions at the outrageous criminal conduct of President Hillary Clinton. You can bet he would have already initiated more of his fraudulent Congressional Committee hearings to produce self-aggrandizing headlines for himself and to create a new witch hunt to bring Hillary Clinton down. I can't think of anyone who has more thoroughly abused the power of his office or wasted more tax dollars to pursue a vicious, malicious personal crusade than Gowdy has. He represents the worst of politicians and the worst of the Republican Party.

Conspicuously silent on this topic however are Democrats who just seem to accept Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner as appointments within the power of the President and have apparently just decided to let it go without challenge.  It is ludicrous that both born to rich parents and inherited businesses are considered brilliant minds that can solve the world's toughest problems. Never mind they haven't had one day's experience in the public sector or had the training, education or experience demanded of such critical roles.

Unfortunately, this is the new America we live in. Gross incompetence in the White House led by a compulsive, pathological liar that has no integrity, ethics and is an amoral slug. Unbridled arrogance drives everything Trump does because he now sees he can destroy anyone who opposes him and his followers could care less about truth, facts or consequences of his reckless behavior.

You asked for it America and you got it.  I for one am embarrassed and ashamed of what this country has become and the pathetic buffoon who serves as President.

Patriotism and the President

The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.

Working Together

 Reprinted from Social Media

Several conservatives have said that we should "work together" with the president and the Republican majority because they won the election and Trump is "everyone's president." This is my response:
•I will not forget how badly he and so many others treated former President Barack Obama for 8 years...
•I will not "work together" to privatize Medicare, cut Social Security and Medicaid.
•I will not "work together" to build a wall.
•I will not "work together" to persecute Muslims.
•I will not "work together" to shut out refugees from other countries.
•I will not "work together" to lower taxes on the 1% and increase taxes on the middle class and poor.
•I will not "work together" to help Trump use the Presidency to line his pockets and those of his family and cronies.
•I will not "work together" to weaken and demolish environmental protection.
•I will not "work together" to sell American lands, especially National Parks, to companies which then despoil those lands.
•I will not "work together" to enable the killing of whole species of animals just because they are predators, or inconvenient for a few, or because some people like killing them.
•I will not "work together" to remove civil rights from anyone.
•I will not "work together" to alienate countries that have been our allies for as long as I have been alive.
•I will not "work together" to slash funding for education.
•I will not "work together" to take basic assistance from people who are at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder.
•I will not "work together" to get rid of common sense regulations on guns.
•I will not "work together" to eliminate the minimum wage.
•I will not "work together" to support so-called "Right To Work" laws, or undermine, weaken or destroy Unions in any way.
•I will not "work together" to suppress scientific research, be it on climate change, fracking, or any other issue where a majority of scientists agree that Trump and his supporters are wrong on the facts.
•I will not "work together" to criminalize abortion or restrict health care for women.
•I will not "work together" to increase the number of nations that have nuclear weapons.
•I will not "work together" to put even more "big money" into politics.
•I will not "work together" to violate the Geneva Convention.
•I will not "work together" to give the Ku Klux Klan, the Nazi Party and white supremacists a seat at the table, or to normalize their hatred
And racism.
•I will not "work together" to deny health care to people who need it.
•I will not "work together" to deny medical coverage to people on the basis of a "pre-existing condition."
•I will not "work together" to increase voter suppression.
•I will not "work together" to normalize tyranny.
•I will not “work together” to eliminate or reduce ethical oversite at any level of government.
•I will not "work together" with anyone who is, or admires, tyrants and dictators.
•I will not "work together" to give less support to government employees.
•I will not "work together" to find ways for the billionaires to cheat the system.
•I will not "work together" to implement a hiring freeze at government agencies.
•I will not "work together" to suppress reporters' right to ask questions the administrations does not like.
•I will not "work together" to bully any country, big or small.
•I will not "work together" to craft a message diminishing women and young adults.
•I will not support anyone that thinks its OK to put a pipeline to transport oil on Sacred Ground for Native Americans. And, it would run under the Missouri River, which provides drinking water for millions of people. An accident waiting to happen.
This is my line, and I am drawing it.
•I will stand for honesty, love, and respect for all living beings.

Really now, what did you expect? You put the inmates in charge of running the asylum and you thought it was going to turn our well? Surprise, surprise. The band of idiots running the White House led by the most unqualified, unprepared incompetent person ever elected to the office of President stumbles from one mess to the next.  The adminsitration has zero credibility because of one blatant lie and exaggeration after another yet Fox News and the other right wing media continue to rationalize and justify the gross ineptitude. They even attempt to say it's somehow the Democrats fault that things aren't going well.  In all of my adult life I have never seen a more disturbing or mind numbing trashing of the whole governing process of this country.  It's not as though people weren't warned by plenty of knowledgeable, experienced people at the highest levels of government that bad things were likely going to happen if Trump was elected.  He succeeded anyway.  For the die hard Trump supporters though, that doesn't really matter. They love the conflict.

For rational people, the spectacle of the Trump presidency is quickly becoming a frightening example of how fast things can deteriorate and how one man with a little star power can move the entire country in a very negative and destructive direction.   This is a sad commentary on just how America deludes itself into the fantasy we are the greatest nation on earth. We aren't and haven't been for a while. We can never afford to take care of the poor or seniors, educate and provide healthcare and a myriad of other things that make our society strong.  We can however, always afford to build more bombs and weapons of war or to support the worst the world has to offer. Our priorities are simply inconsistent with the values we provide lip service to.

Steven Miller and Steve Bannon are Dangerous

Donald Trump has surrounded himself with right wing ideologues that are destructive and dangerous to this country. Steven Miller and Steve Bannon have a view of the world and of the United States that is perverse to say the least. They use misinformation, fear and outright lies to advance their agenda in a way that undermines our democracy. It is not just a difference of philosophy they are advancing, it is a totally different value system that is based on an ultra-conservative right wing view that is often founded on conspiracy theory and paranoia.  They claim to be great patriots that base everything they do on the Constitution. They are in fact pseudo-patriots that twist and distort the very foundation of our country that would make our forefathers roll over in their graves.

I would submit that Steven Miller, Steve Bannon and most of the other Trump surrogates are the epitome of unpatriotic, un-American opportunist that prey on undereducated, angry people who just want to fight and it really doesn't matter who they fight as long as it stands against something. We are headed down a very dangerous path and nothing good can come of it. Complacency is the enemy.  The price we will pay if we continue down this path may be incalculable.

On a daily basis Donald Trump reminds us of what a dark, evil place we live in. Terrorist are flowing in from all directions. Murder and mayhem in the streets is everywhere. No one is safe. Trust him though, he will save us if we just do what he tells us.  The best way for you to save yourself is just sit back, say nothing, don't challenge anything, don't look at the facts. In other words, become the proverbial Ostrich with its head in the sand.  So far, it is working just as Trump planned it. The national narrative now is about keeping us safe from all those foreigners coming here. This is the new McCarthyism. It is now appropriately  Trumpism.

Creating a "Boogyman" has been standard fare for Republicans going back to Lee Atwater and the Willie Horton ads. Put fear in peoples hearts and you can control their minds. The main stream media is complicit in creating the climate of fear because they don't push back hard enough. They
don't have the courage to call Donald Trump out for what he is, a blatant fear and hate monger who is seeking political advantage by gaining submission through fear.  A climate of fear becomes the reality. You can actually be very safe, but if you believe you are in grave danger then your behavior and willingness to accept extreme measures is the reality you live in. Sad part, it significantly affects the quality of life we have. Living in fear deprives people of basic freedoms needlessly. It tends to make us suspicious, untrusting, afraid.

Fear and hate mongers only succeed when people do not stand up and challenge them. What we have now in a President  is a school yard bully who has expanded the school yard to include the whole world. We let him do it. America elected him. We own him and ultimately everyone who voted for him owns the mess he creates.  This is no longer the America I believe in. It is moving from a live democracy with a due process model of justice to an autocracy with a crime control model overseen by a new dictator, Donald Trump.

Hypocrisy is the Norm in Washington DC

The Trump Administration and the Republican Party are the absolute definition of unbounded hypocrisy.  For the better part of two decades the Republican Party made the theme of the Clinton's belief they were above the law the centerpiece of their malicious and unrelenting smear campaign.  Now that Donald Trump is President and literally thumbing his nose at the law, shredding the Constitution and making a mockery of ethics in government, these same indignant Clinton haters stand shamelessly silent as their chosen leader drags the country from one mud hole to the next.

That is not to say the Democrats don't have their share of hypocrites as well. It seems to be the nature of the world's largest septic tank we call Washington DC. It is disgusting and a joke we call this the greatest nation on earth. In keeping with the Trump mantra, if you tell yourself a lie enough times, it will become your reality. It is a little like walking into a garage and saying "Wow, I'm in a garage. Garages are for cars. I am in a garage so therefore, I must be a car." You are in fact in a garage but you are not in fact a car. You may be dumb enough to believe you are but just because you believe it doesn't make it so.

One thing is for sure, there is a double standard  that cannot be denied. The standards the Clinton's were held to and the standards Republicans hold Trump to and subscribe to themselves are polar opposites.

Republicans have become a mindless, malicious party that is destructive and unworthy of respect. I have watched over this last year and seen people who I considered good friends and respected follow Trump like a Pied Piper. I am extremely disappointed in them and have concluded that while we may have had a relationship in the past, we certainly do not share the same values.   Trump has profoundly changed America and negatively impacted the daily lives of common people.  This is not just a difference of opinion or philosophy, it is a question of what values you hold and how you view right and wrong.  If you believe Donald Trump is right and agree with what he is doing and how he conducts himself, then we are fundamentally different. You are free to continue down that path but I choose a different one.

Credibility is Critical for a Commander in Chief

Quality leadership provides the ability to inspire the best in people. It is the foundation of trust and confidence and for people to believe you are committed to doing the right things for the right reasons in the right way.

Donald Trump appears to be psychologically unstable, petty, vindictive and malicious. He is a proven compulsive, pathological liar who will say anything without considering the potential ramifications and ethics and integrity are not even in the mix with him. His exaggerations and self-aggrandizement knows no bounds.  He trades on fear and hate mongering like no other politician in modern history.  What is worse, he has surrounded himself with surrogates who on a daily basis prove they have absolutely no regard for the truth, or facts.

It is a frightening time to be a citizen of the United States. I am embarrassed and ashamed to call myself an American when so many people in this country seem just fine with Trump's actions. They are like lemmings going right over the cliff. They are no different than the mindless Germans of the late 1930's who put Hitler in office and allowed the destruction of Europe and Germany because they either believed in what Hitler was doing or were so cowardly they stood silent in the face of escalating atrocities.

What is most concerning is that there may come a time that he will ask for support to take military action or some other critical measure that could have tremendous impact on our country. Without credibility and being known as a liar and exaggerator, it will be very difficult for a country to unite and follow someone who has proven himself to be reckless beyond measure.

The Party of No has No Clue!

Republicans, you gotta love them. For almost seven years they have been whining and carping about Obamacare and have repeatedly tried to repeal it without success. Now they control both houses of Congress and the White House and their big day has arrived. They can finally repeal Obamacare. Guess what though. In seven years they haven't even been able to come up with a plan to replace it with. That's right no plan to replace the demonized healthcare program.  They have proven beyond a doubt they are in fact the party of NO. They have no ideas, no plans and  a bucket full of lackluster leadership.

The Republican Party has become a malignant, malicious, mindless group the offer nothing positive or constructive. They stand for nothing and oppose everything. Their primary modus operandi is to be hate and fear mongers that galvanize the dump truck full of deplorables that support Donald Trump. It is always profits before people and there is never enough money to take care of people in our society whether it be seniors, the poor, the homeless or otherwise disadvantaged. They always can find more money to build more bombs though. They never found a war they didn't like because after all, that's good for the economy. It creates jobs in the Military Industrial complex. It provides a constant bogeyman to keep people in fear.

The fact that Republican's have nothing to offer on healthcare after all this time is evidence their only objective was to ensure Obama failed no matter what the cost. The best they can do is on the first day of their session was to try to figure out how to dismantle independent ethics oversight. I'm not even sure they know what the term "ethics" mean.

I grew up in a Republican family and was a registered Republican having voted for Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr.  The Republican Party I knew then ceased to exist. What we have today is a sad commentary on just how far the system is sunk into the abyss of dysfunction and blood sport.  What a scary prospect the next four years is.

The Legitimacy of the Election

Donald Trump lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes, a number greater than the entire population of 21 states individually and more than 5 of our states combined. He was aided in gaining barely enough electoral votes to win by a hostile foreign government (Russia) who committed espionage against our country using a known cyberterrorist (Julian Asange) to launch a smear campaign and false news stories against his opponent which went viral in social media and was never fully exposed or challenged by mainstream media who failed miserably in preserving the public trust. That hostile foreign government then celebrated their success in getting Trump elected in intercepted emails by our intelligence community. Complicate in that act of espionage was an unethical and unprofessional partisan director of the FBI who came perilously close, if not in fact did violate the Hatch Act with his ill timed and inflammatory announcements to Congress and members of Congress who were more than happy to exploit it. The announcements proved to be totally devoid of any substance but the damage to Hillary Clinton was enormous.

Donald Trump loudly proclaims his skepticism of the hacking and even after being briefed by top intelligence officials he trivializes and minimizes it. He insists it had no impact on the election and that those who are complaining are just sore losers. Off course he denies it had any impact. To say otherwise would certainly indicate his election was tainted. Why should he complain about it. He was the direct beneficiary of the espionage and hacking. It is totally consistent with his win and at all costs mentality no matter how much damage is done accomplishing it.

The legitimacy of the Trump Presidency is highly questionable and should cause every American great concern. Democracy without at least minimal integrity is not democracy at all. It is illusion. It has serious implications for future elections and whether in fact confidence will be undermined.
